Health New Zealand Safet Report on the E-Cigarette

Purpose of the Report

To assess regulators in the assessment of the safety of the Ruyan E-Cigarette and cartridges.

Propylene Glycol

89 - 90% of the content of the e-cigarette is made up of Propylene glycol C3H8O2 ,
a water based liquid which is also used in pharmaceuticals, preservative. personal lubricants. pet food and as a in theatrical stage productions for producing mist. Proylene Glycol has been tested in children’s ward as a method of controling infections No ill effect was found on the children, and a reduced rate of infection was found in the wards in which it was tested.

Findings:

The E-Cigarette is very safe in comparison to cigarettes and also safe in absolute terms.

There is ongoing research in New Zealand into the extent to which the electronic cigarette can help smokers cope with the pangs of nicotine withdrawal. The study will also test current thinking that the faster delivery of nicotine to the bloodstream afforded by the e-cigarette make it a more effective way of combatting withdrawal symtoms.
